Code of Conduct for Parents, Guardians, and Families/Guests
As a Hillsborough FC parent, guardian, guest, or a player, I agree to adhere to the following for all training sessions and games, and ensure any family members/guests are aware of and adhere to the same:
- I will not be a coach.
Shouting instructions will cause confusion and will result in erroneous play on the child’s part. The coach has instructed the child on how to play. If you shout instructions your child will try to please you and the coach at the same time. In trying to do two things at once, the child will fail at both. - I will refrain from supporting my player and the team in any manner which can be interpreted as disruptive or distracting
Similar to attempting to coach from outside the field, other behaviors which distract your player or the team are not helpful, even when they are well-intentioned. This includes cheering, noisemakers, banners, and similar displays which can be heard/observed by our players, coaches, and fans. - I will remain silent whenever something occurs that goes against our teams.
A display of anger will inflame a delicate situation resulting in embarrassment for the child. Parents embarrass their own child by making a spectacle of themselves. - I will not yell at, argue with, or demonstrate any form of aggression toward Hillsborough FC staff, Player Technique Academy coaches, or players. The referee has the power to stop the match if the crowd becomes discourteous.
- I will not run up and down the sidelines or place myself near the team/player area (nor any other location indicated as off-limits by Hillsborough FC staff, PTA coaches, referees, or signage posted at the field/facility). Parents may find a comfortable place to sit down or stand and enjoy the game.
- I will value the emotional and physical well-being of my child.
I will put my child’s feelings before my personal desire to win. I will remember that the game is for the youth, not for adults. - I will use encouraging language at all times.
I will never use profanity. - I will create a safe environment.
I will demand a sports-oriented environment for my child that is free of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol, and will refrain from their use at all youth sports events. - Social Media.
I will not post content that would harm or damage the reputation of Hillsborough FC or PTA reputation. - I will always use the 24-hour rule.
If any parent has a problem/issue, please request a meeting with coach Mauricio 24 hours after the practice or game. Please schedule the meeting before resorting to emails, texts, or voice mails to express your dissatisfaction. Issues are always resolved better face to face and when both parties are calm. Any emails, texts or voice mails before the meeting will be deleted and unaddressed. To schedule a meeting, please call coach Mauricio 908-644-0394.
